The META-TOO project is already showing tangible results in widening participation and strengthening academic capacity.
Mary Diamandi has been awarded a Bachelor of Science degree by the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications. Her thesis, entitled “Development of an Immersive Virtual Environment to Support Research on Gender-Based Harassment in the Metaverse”, was supervised by Associate Professor Maria Roussou and partially supported by META-TOO.
Two students of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Cyberspace, Behaviour and E-therapy (CYBER) worked on their projects in META-TOO under the supervision of Prof. Maria V. Sanchez Vives and Dr. Justyna Swidrak (IDIBAPS). Kátia dos Santos Estevães presented a dissertation titled “Personalized and Gender-Swapped Embodiment: A Virtual Reality Intervention on Gender Bias” and Abigya Abayneh Melese presented a project titled “The Role of Sentiment Analysis in Identifying Changes in Attitudes Toward Gender-Based Harassment in Virtual Reality”. Both students were awarded a Master of Arts degree by the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Portugal).
These academic achievements, directly linked to META-TOO, demonstrate how the project supports young scholars, enhances research and education opportunities and creates lasting academic impact through student achievement.
We warmly congratulate the researchers on this important milestone and look forward to seeing the impact of their work in the years ahead.
