META-TOO Showcases VR Research on Gender-Based Harassment at VR Summit 2026

The META-TOO project participated in VR Summit 2026 in Bochum, Germany, where Isaac Calvis, PhD candidate at FRCB-IDIBAPS, showcased innovative research on harassment in virtual reality and contributed as a mentor.

From 12 to 13 October 2026, the VR Summit brought together researchers, developers, and practitioners from neuroscience, psychology, clinical practice, education, and virtual reality technology to explore how extended reality (XR) can advance our understanding of human cognition and address real-world challenges.

Representing the META-TOO project, Isaac Calvis, PhD candidate at project partner FRCB-IDIBAPS, participated in the event, presenting the META-TOO Interview Harassment Experiment through a research poster titled “A Chance to Act: Men Frequently React to Gender-Based Violence after Female Embodiment in a Job Interview.”

The research explores the potential of immersive virtual reality to investigate responses to gender-based harassment, highlighting how virtual embodiment can provide new perspectives on social interactions and behaviour. By examining reactions within simulated scenarios, the experiment contributes to META-TOO’s broader efforts to better understand harassment and explore innovative approaches to addressing it.

Beyond sharing the project’s research, Isaac also contributed as a mentor, supporting knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary discussions, and collaboration within the VR research community.

Through participation in international scientific events such as VR Summit 2026, META-TOO continues to share its research, strengthen interdisciplinary connections, and contribute to discussions on the socially responsible use of immersive technologies.
